OPENVPN INSTALLATION FOR ANDROID 4.x
Android phones and tablets with 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and 4.1 (Jelly Bean) have the possibility to create a VPN service that does not require root access (that means you dont need to Jailbreak or root your phone).
There is now a open-source port of OpenVPN for Android 4.x phones.
1. Start with getting the .ovpn file for the VPN server you want to connect to. You can download it from the list below or from our Downloads section.
Either download it directly on your Android phone, or onto your computer and copy the .ovpn files onto your Phone with USB or via the SD card.

2. You will need to install the free “OpenVPN for Android by ARNE SCHWABE” (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.blinkt.openvpn) from the Google Playstore (formerly the “Android Market”).
Open the Google Play Store, Open the search dialog by taping on magnifying glass and enter “openvpn”.
Tap on “OpenVPN for Android by ARNE SCHWABE”.
Tap INSTALL, Tap ACCEPT & DOWNLOAD.
When the installation is complete tap OPEN.
4. Tap on the folder icon on the top right of the screen
5. Navigate to the .ovpn files that you downloaded or copied in step 1.
Tap the file and then tap the Select button
6. Tap the IMPORT button at the top of the screen.
7. Tap on the Edit button to the right of the new profile
8. Tap on Basic.
9.Scroll down and enter your blackVPN username and password.
Tap on your android BACK button to return to the main screen.
10. To connect tap on the new profile that you just created.
Tap on the CHECKBOX and tap OK if you agree to trust the VPN application. (This is a security check imposed by google to prevent abuse of the VPNService API)
11. You will see a log being generated as the connection is in progress.
Once successfully connected you should see a lock icon in the notification area at the top.
You may also hear a sound once the connection is successful depending on your device.
You should now be connected and enjoying VPN on your android.
If you pull down your notification bar you should see the “OpenVPN for Android” app listed showing that you are connected.
If you tap on this button you will see statistics about the connection including an option to disconnect.
For security reasons, you should delete the .ovpn files from the phone or sdcard after you imported them.
If you want to install additional VPN server connections just repeats steps 3-9.
Add Widget
You can also add a shortcut to any OpenVPN Profile, by adding the OpenVPN Shortcut widget.
Problems
Official HTC images are known to have a strange routing problem causing traffic not to flow through the tunnel.
The official SONY images from Xperia arc S and Xperia Ray have been reported to be missing the VPNService completely from the image. Other Sony images may be affected as well.
On custom build images the tun module might be missing or the rights of /dev/tun might be wrong.
Some CM9 images need the fix ownership option under general settings.
Most important: If you have a broken image, report it to your vendor. The more people report the issue to the vendor the more likely you will get a fix.
